Jen & Adam’s wedding day at Clearwell Castle in the Forest of Dean was filled with wonderful smiles and much laughter and joy. It’s the wedding for you if you are looking for a more traditional wedding day with a few less traditional bits thrown in. Jen wore a beautiful tea length wedding dress and Jen & Adam made most of the decor themselves, wanting to keep it simple and personal.
I was blessed to work with the lovely Amber Marie Photography who worked with me as a second shooter on the day.
I’ll let Jen & Adam tell you the story of their day in their own words below with their photographs underneath that.
Tell me your story
We met at work in 2008 and played squash every week! We got together a year later on a work trip in Kenya. We had been together 7 years before Adam proposed on top of a rock while climbing in Fontainbleau! (Turns out climbing makes your fingers swell so couldn’t put the ring on for another hour!).
What made you choose your venue
It was actually my sister that found the venue. I’d mentioned that I quite like the idea of getting married in a castle and just before Christmas. With the help of Google we found Clearwell Castle. We had seen a few venues and it turn outs most things are booked up in the summer when you’re looking only 9 months ahead!
What made you choose your outfits?
Wedding dress – After trying on every different style of dress with my bridesmaids and my mum, I found myself determined to find a Tea length dress that didn’t make me look 12 years old. A bit of hunting around in the Birmingham area, I came across Georgina Bridal. They were absolutely fantastic and I tried it on several times with multiple whatsapp calls to mum, sister and bridesmaids! I loved it because I knew dancing in it would be great fun 🙂
Decor & Styling
We wanted to make as much as we could ourselves and we wanted to keep it simple. We also wanted to use things from our garden wherever possible (hence the tree branches to make the name holders, the tree branches for the table names and some flowers from the garden mixed in with the florists). My friend Jenny did all the table arrangements and the bouquets so we ordered buckets of flowers from Vale garden Flowers who grows everything in her garden.
Having decided Darth Vader’s theme tune and Jenny Don’t be Hasty were probably the wrong options for walking down the aisle we had a pretty classic set of tunes in the end with the one exception of Yoda’s Theme tune during the signing of the register.
Was there any special music on the day? What was your first dance track?
Stevie Wonder’s For Once in My life was our first dance – we love Stevie Wonder 🙂
What was your favourite part of the day and why?
I think I have 2 – the ceremony was incredibly special and also our first dance 🙂
If you could pass on any words of wisdom to a couple planning their marriage and wedding day, what would they be?
Everything will expand to fill the time you have. Do what you can together
Did you have a honeymoon of any kind?
We went to Switzerland for 5 days to stay with some friends and go climbing straight after the wedding. We then had a long honeymoon in October – 2 weeks in Sri Lanka and 1 week in the Maldives (which was amazing!!!)
Working with Larissa
Larissa did an amazing job stepping in at the last minute to cover our wedding. She and Amber were easy to work with, and professional throughout. For the formal photos and the couple photos Larissa was great fun to work with and both Amber and Larissa blended into the background to capture some natural, honest and in some cases very funny moments through the day. The photos that we have from the day are fantastic. The colours have been captured beautifully and the mix of formal photos and guests captured unawares is brilliant!
Geogina Scott Bridal (I would recommend them to anyone! They were incredibly helpful) http://georginascottbridal.co.uk/contact-georgina-scott-bridal
The dress was by Designer Louise Bentley and the style was BE27 Cecilia http://www.louisebentley.com/collections/cecilia/
Florist – Jayne at Vale Garden Flowers – She grows most of them in her own garden – all we asked is that there was plenty of blue flowers and we talked about the type of flowers we wanted in the bouquets and she gave us fantastic array. http://www.valegardenflowers.co.uk/about.html
The band was Empire – you can contact them through Hire a Band https://hireaband.co.uk/empire/
