Wedding Day Celebration Party

Jack & Katie wanted a BIG party at The Globe at Hay to celebrate their marriage the previous day and booked me to document all the fun! It was an amazing day and very much a celebration. I think I grinned all day!
I booked my good friend and colleague Ros from vitafilms.co.uk to second shoot with me as there were a lot of guests to cover. I’m glad I did and she did an awesome job.

I’ll let Jack & Katie tell you the story in their own words below –

Tell me your story?

We met through a mutual friend – our friend Mel who Katie moved into a shared house with when she first moved to Bristol. It took us a few months before we started dating, and a bit of meddling from Mel, but it all worked out as 9 years later we got married. Jack proposed to Katie a year before the wedding on holiday in Porto, at a viewpoint overlooking the river at night (it was very romantic).

What made you choose your venue?

It was our wild card choice to be honest! We had been thinking of Glastonbury area as we love it round there but after seeing a couple of venues that didn’t hit the spot, we booked to see the globe having remembered it from a visit to hay a few years earlier. Seeing it again and speaking with Mary, the coordinator, made us realise it was just what we wanted!

Tell me about your outfits

Neither of us were certain about what we were looking for, just for it to be fun and not too formal. Jack was keen on a colourful suit so we were very excited to find a light blue corduroy suit with orange doc martens for him! Katie looked at lots of options including second hand and vintage, more classic styles, shorter informal dresses and sequins but found her perfect dress at Rebel Rock Bridalwear in Hereford – polka dot sheer dress over a short satin slip dress.

Décor & Styling

We were pretty relaxed about it to be honest – the globe was already an attractive space so we just added a few bits we’d got inspo from online. Plus things we borrowed from friends! Lots of colour and disco balls was the priority. Jack’s dad also refurbished a Millers sign which used to be the sign above their coffee bar.

Our ceremony

It was a very simple ceremony at Hereford registry office the previous day with close family only. Memorable moment was Katie getting the giggles half way through the vows!

The Entertainment

We booked a brilliant band called the soul strutters from Bristol. Despite having to replace their normal singer at the last moment due to illness, the replacement was equally amazing and the 7-piece band blew the roof off. We had loads of comments on how good they were. We also had a fireworks display put on by one of our Sten organisers which went down very well. The band leader then DJ\’d the rest of the night away for us!

Our first dance

We had a “first limbo” instead of a first dance which worked exactly as we hoped, getting everyone on the dancefloor. We chose a return of the Mack  Eve ‘let me blow your mind’ medley (from the bands setlist) – yes very random but it worked! We also asked the band to play “Lovely day” by Bill Withers and for the DJ to close with the Studio Rio version of this. This is one of our favourite songs which is always the closing song to a festival we love.

Our favourite part of the day

Katie – probably the limbo! Our friends and family fully embraced it and it was so lovely seeing all their smiles. The photos of it are brilliant! Especially with the bubbles as well.
Jack – It was all amazing of course. But me and Katie being put up on friend’s shoulders at the end of the night, as our closing song ‘lovely day’ by bill Withers played, was probably the highlight.

Words of Wisdom

Trust your instincts and create the wedding day you both want; resist doing anything just because it’s tradition. In terms of budget, choose what your priorities are and what want to spend more money on, and don’t worry too much about the rest.

Our Honeymoon

We had a mini moon in the Lake District straight after the wedding. The first time we have both been and we absolutely loved it! It was exactly what we needed to unwind but also shake off some of that post wedding adrenaline! Our big honeymoon is in Japan, which we are currently on! We are writing this while on a bullet train from Hakodate to Tokyo!

Working with Larissa Joice Photography

We are so happy with our photos and for having Larissa & Ros part of our day. You took on board our wishes for the day and were the perfect balance of organised (in getting the pics needed) and unobtrusive. I must confess that after the group photos I hardly noticed you both but you still captured everything we wanted you to! Your style was right up our street and this came through in all our pics

What did you like best about working with me?

Relaxed non pushy approach. Took on board that we didn’t love posed photos so made our couples photos as painless as possible. Managed to wrangle everyone for the group photos which looks great. And most importantly captured those amazing stylish party action shots from the rest of the night

Would you recommend me and my services? If so, why?

Yes definitely! We’re very happy with the photos, they capture the fun and happiness of the day. You were so easy to work with from the first phone call to delivery of the photos. Larissa was amazing from start to finish. She totally understood our priorities and worked around our camera shyness. She struck the right balance between being organised and unobtrusive on the day and captured the most amazing photos – colourful, energetic and fun which was exactly what we wanted. We would highly recommend Larissa.
